Hi! I’m Jen Foden, a Toronto-based freelance managing editor and writer. I help organizations create polished magazines, articles, websites, guidebooks, newsletters, reports, app and social media copy and other content across print and digital platforms.

My content focus includes food and drink, travel, arts and culture, design, sustainability and mental health. No matter the topic, I approach content with a lens of equity and diversity, from word choice to championing underrepresented voices.

I have freelanced for 15 years. Sometimes that was full-time and sometimes that was off the side of my desk while I worked staff editor jobs at Air Canada enRoute, Food Network Canada, HGTV Canada, Yellow Pages, etc.

Currently I’m a mentor with Shared Bylines, a scholarship and mentorship program for BIPOC student journalists. (I’ve previously volunteered with the Online Journalism Awards, Reel Causes, Canadian Society of Magazine Editors, among others.)

I’m honoured that both my writing and editing work have been awarded by the North American Travel Journalists Association, Travel Media Association of Canada, National Media Awards Foundation (Digital Publishing Awards) and Canadian Online Publishing Awards in categories like cultural/historical feature writing, social storytelling, best website, etc.

When I’m not working with words, I’m biking, travelling, sportsing, aunting and overthinking everything.
