Hi! I’m Jen Foden, a freelance writer and editor. My career in Canadian media has varied, but my content focus has mostly been food/drink, travel, design, sustainability and social justice.
I have freelanced for well over a decade. Sometimes that was full-time and sometimes that was off the side of my desk while I worked staff editor jobs at Air Canada enRoute, Food Network Canada, HGTV Canada, Yellow Pages, etc. I also taught a course at George Brown College. These days, freelance writing and editing is my full-time gig.
Currently I’m a mentor with Shared Bylines, a scholarship and mentorship program for young BIPOC journalists who are underrepresented in the Canadian media space. I’m also a screener for the Online Journalism Awards. (I’ve previously volunteered with Reel Causes, Canadian Society of Magazine Editors, among others.)
I’m honoured that both my writing and editing work have been awarded by the North American Travel Journalists Association, Travel Media Association of Canada, National Media Awards Foundation (Digital Publishing Awards) and Canadian Online Publishing Awards in categories like cultural/historical feature writing, social storytelling, best website, etc.
When I’m not working with words, I’m biking, travelling, sportsing, aunting and overthinking everything.
